You know how during the summer it’s super hot when you get into your car in the afternoon? Well that’s what it’s like in my room every day. It’s like an oven; I could probably bake a cake up in here. My fan just blows hot air on me. There is sweat everywhere. After an hour or two in my room, the water in my water bottle heats up to about 98 degrees. Do you know how unsatisfying it is to be thirsty and have to drink that? I do and it’s not satisfying at all. Right now the typical highs reach the upper 90’s to lower 100’s with heat indexes well over 100.
The worst thing about the heat is that there is no escaping it, it’s everywhere. In America you could go inside a place with an air conditioner, there are not many places like that here. You know it’s hot when even Khmer people are complaining about it. Between 12-4 every afternoon there’s not much more to do than to just sit or lay around and that’s what a good majority of my village does, it just sort of shuts down. It really takes a toll on you after a while, but hopefully the hot season will end soon and the rains will start to come. Enjoy your stupid air conditioner America.

I am thankful for good health, etc., but I never thought to be thankful for central air, my bad. I and America needs to be alerted to what others do not have. I am thankful for you being in Cambodia.
But Tony– I’m sure you will embrace the heat just like you’ve embraced everything else you’ve been through. And be sure to leave some heat for Matteo!
